The Arts Society Cotswolds, founded in 1969, is an active and friendly society based in the beautiful Oxfordshire town of Burford. Our meetings are held ten times at year at 11.30am on the second Wednesday of the month at Warwick Hall, Church Green, Burford, OX18 4RY. You are warmly invited to join us for our fascinating lectures, special interest days, social events and visits to places of outstanding interest.
The expert speakers deliver illustrated talks on a wide variety of topics: architecture, artists and designers, china, glass, painting, music, furniture, sculpture, jewellery…..and much more, ranging from prehistory to modern times
For those who enjoy hearing about a subject in greater depth, we have Special Interest Days which allow the speaker more time to share their specialist subject.
If you would like to explore further afield we regularly organise visits to museums, country houses and gardens and places of historic and artistic interest, generally by coach.
You can also take part in a range of other heritage and volunteer activities, meeting people with similar interests and supporting Arts within our local community.
We are especially proud of sponsoring activities for young people. For the last five years we have awarded an annual bursary to a student at each of three local state schools – Burford, Chipping Norton and Cotswold. This enables students to pursue their interest and studies in the arts, crafts and design.
Additionally we foster an interest in the Arts by producing a very popular illustrated guidebook to the historic buildings in Burford
We are a member society of The Arts Society, a leading arts education charity with a global network of 385 local Societies, which bring people together through a shared curiosity for the arts and an interest in the preservation of the nation’s artistic heritage. (See the Associated Links here.)
